2009 Color/Trend Forecast

November 12, 2008 20:46 by Richard

As we approach 2009, we offer our perspective on the colors and trends we see emerging in design. Not only are these forecasts floral related, but most importantly, the colors and trends that will directly affect home decor as well as fashion. Lakeland is always on top of these trends and we strive to present our products based on this information.

As design professionals, it is critical to have the earliest access to the leading trends information. It is our feeling that color combinations reveal color relationships seen in world wide design markets.

The first trend to watch is very natural in color, Original, Unfinished, Uncovered, and Uncoated- are just a few of the terms we might use to describe this look. We will see white on white using layering. Gray will begin to explode as we see its presence in variations of blues, reds, yellows as the parent. The sands of our universe will influence the tonal naturals from beige to almost black - undyed and unbleached.

Urban living is the second emerging trend. Nature's influence dominates this look especially in concrete forms with shades of green. We will see the look of stone, lichen and pearl as true accents. Metalic finishes will become even stronger with very industrial finishes polished to a high sheen.

The third influence strives to make the complex simple. This look will be more sculptural bringing order from chaos, Here we will see colors darkening with the dominant influence of black. Throughout each of these colors, Gray plays a very strong role as well.

And finally, each of us possesses our own identity--it has or can become very private to our individual authenticity or Private Identity seems increasingly vulnerable. Private Identity is the simplistic beauty of the spirit.  Bright colors teamed with more subuded tints enhance unique pairings. The pop will be metalics- slick, shiny and modern in its presentation. Imagine the intense colors found in a Morrocan market accented with the polished brass.

It is easy to see that in 2009 the colors will reach each individual in their own personal taste while at the same time, allow them to explore new horizions.

Home Decor Trends 2009 -

June 9, 2008 06:14 by Richard

At Lakeland, we strive to provide the latest and most up-to-date information on design, colors, new products and of course the driving force behind all of these, “trends” The California Cut Flower Commission publishes each year, its American floral trends Forecast presenting an in-depth study of the colors, the style, the appropriate flowers suggested to interpret this trend etc, Following is a brief synopsis of those trends which can be used to assist you in your buying, your merchandising of your shops and businesses, as well as the total decorating concepts in home and office.

HABITATGreens continue to dominate this trend with a hint of blue’s browns and ivories. This trend is restful, quiet...life at rest and directly has a true regard for the balance between you and the earth.

 NOCTURNE
“Luxury”, “Opulence”, with a more subdued quality defines this trend. Luxurious tones of purples, plums rich reds and lavenders combine to bring the elegance of these
powerful hues to life. A touch of Antique Gold is added to bring that exclamation point, the accent. One would look at the Baroque style of days gone by to gain a deeper understanding of  “Nocturne”

WHISPERQuiet, neutral softer tones of the creamy white of the Stephanotis, grays and blue-graysMake up the colors of this pallet. The accent color can be found in the colors of the earth with copper adding that punch. Simplicity is the dominate feature of this trend. Design tends to be more stylized as opposed to being “arranged”. Flower covered Orbs, floating signature blossoms exude that relaxed simple feeling bringing this exciting trend to life.

NOMADVivid oranges, vibrant and rich blues, royal fuchsia the bright colors of tribal influences  bring this trend to life. Exotic Fruits, handcrafted items, beading, woven

Textiles. In floral design, intricately woven materials bring to life that desire to travel  to experience first hand, those global influences which affect our daily lives.

 CHINOISERIE

Pronounced shen-wah’-zeh-ree, “A French term describing European interpretations of Chinese style from the 17th and 18th centuries.     The dominate tones of reds with the strong influence of pink added with the compliments of purples and greens to strengthen and to add depth to this harmony.Individual blossoms which have a more individual quality are used in a more traditional Chinese influenced styling. Think of the incredible Asian embroidered fabrics, the cloisonné, and of course, the beautifully hand woven baskets as your guide to designing for this exciting influence.

These four trends are major influences for the future of design and are totally global in their application.  Keep in mind handcrafted, natural woods, larger than life, with respect to containers and interior accents, and of course the metallics are still quite popular. We deeply appreciate the California Cut Flower Commission for compiling this information and making it available to our industry.
